FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What do you mean "undress to level of comfort?"

You are always in control of what you wear during your massage. Here’s what that means for your session:

  • Nude is completely acceptable – but rest assured, you will always be professionally draped, and only the area being worked on will be uncovered at any time.

  • Staying fully dressed is also okay – but keep in mind that we won’t be able to use as much (or any) lotion or oil, and the session will rely more on compression and movement-based techniques rather than gliding strokes.

  • Wearing boxers or similar undergarments may limit your massage experience – They can hinder our ability to work on the full length of your legs and reduce the smoothness of strokes. If you’re comfortable, removing them allows for better flow and deeper work.

  • Glute work is a normal and beneficial part of massage – Many people hold tension in this area, and we can work on your glutes within your comfort level, whether through the sheet, over clothing, or directly with proper draping.

  • Leaving a bra on can limit your back massage – While we can work around it, a bra can restrict access to the muscles along your spine and shoulders. If you're comfortable, removing it allows for a more effective session.

Your comfort and trust are our priority! If you ever have concerns or preferences, just let your therapist know.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN A ONE HOUR MASSAGE SESSION

At Down to Earth Massage, we believe in giving you the full time you’ve booked. That means the clock doesn’t start until our hands start working—you get a full 60 minutes of hands-on massage. (This can be different at other facilities where you receive a 50-55 minute 'clinical hour.') However, if you arrive late, we’ll still do our best to provide a great session, but your massage will need to end at the originally scheduled time so we can prepare for our next client.

Here’s what a typical one-hour session looks like:

1. Arrival & Consultation (5-10 minutes, not included in your massage time)

  • Arrive 5-10 minutes early to fill out an intake form if you didn't already do so online.

  • You’ll check in and review any health updates or concerns.

  • Your therapist will discuss your goals—whether you need relaxation, pain relief, or focus on specific areas.

  • We’ll answer any questions and make sure you're comfortable with your session plan.

2. Getting Ready (2-5 minutes, not included in your massage time)

  • Your therapist will step out while you undress to your comfort level and get under the sheets.

  • Once you’re ready, they will knock before re-entering.

3. The Massage (60 minutes of hands-on work)

Your session will be tailored to your needs, but here’s a general breakdown:

✅ Swedish Massage (Relaxation-Focused)

  • Starts with flowing, soothing strokes to warm up the muscles.

  • Incorporates gentle kneading, rolling, and rhythmic techniques to ease tension and promote circulation.

  • Pressure ranges from light to firm, depending on your preference.

✅ Deep Tissue Massage (Therapeutic & Tension-Relief Focused)

  • Begins with warming strokes, then transitions into slower, deeper pressure targeting chronic tension.

  • May involve forearms, elbows, and knuckles to break up muscle tightness and adhesions.

  • Focuses on specific areas of concern, working deeper but always within your comfort level.

Both styles can include glute work, if desired, and will be customized to your comfort and needs.

4. Closing & Aftercare (3-5 minutes, not included in your massage time)

  • Your therapist will let you know when the session is complete and step out while you get dressed.

  • We’ll check in on how you feel and offer aftercare tips, such as hydration, stretching, or self-care techniques.

  • You will check out and be offered a chance to schedule another appointment.

Hygiene & Safety FAQs

Do I need to shower before my massage?

A shower is not required before your massage, but if you’ve been sweating heavily or coming straight from the gym, a quick rinse is appreciated. Your comfort is our priority, and we want you to feel relaxed during your session.

What if I have body hair—should I shave before my massage?

There is absolutely no need to shave before your massage. We do not care, judge, or even take notice. Your body is perfect just as it is, and shaving (or not shaving) will not affect your massage experience.

Can I get a massage if I have a sunburn, rash, or contagious illness?

If you have a sunburn or rash, we may need to avoid certain areas or reschedule your session to prevent discomfort. If you are experiencing a contagious illness (such as the flu, cold, or skin infection), we ask that you reschedule for when you’re feeling better—this helps protect both you and our other clients.

Do you use scented oils? What if I have allergies or sensitivities?

We offer both scented and unscented oils and lotions. If you have any allergies, sensitivities, or preferences, please let us know during your intake process, and we will gladly use a product that works best for you. Your safety and comfort are our top priorities.
